Beyond the Next Step

from $475.00

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
— Marcel Proust

Beyond the Next Step is a meditation on trust, perseverance, and the quiet courage to continue when the destination remains unseen. A weathered stone staircase disappears beneath a canopy of filtered light, inviting the viewer toward a journey whose end remains hidden. Like many of life's most meaningful paths, it offers only the next step—and the choice to take it.

Created from an image that remained in my archives for more than a decade, this photograph became complete only when its deeper meaning finally revealed itself. It is not a photograph about a staircase, but about hope, possibility, and the enduring belief that our greatest discoveries often lie just beyond what we can presently see.

Lighting Recommendation

Color Temperature 3000K (Warm White)

This is my first choice. Warm enough to complement the golden light on the stairs.

  • Neutral enough to preserve the rich greens.

  • Creates a welcoming, contemplative atmosphere.

Avoid 4000K or 5000K lighting. It will make the greens feel clinical and diminish the warmth that is central to the image.

A Design Tip

This image is unusual because it contains its own internal light source. The top of the staircase already glows. Your gallery lighting should support that glow, never compete with it.

That's why I'd resist the temptation to over-light the print. A softly illuminated room with refined accent lighting will make the image feel as though it's quietly radiating from within. For a contemplative piece like Beyond the Next Step, that subtlety is exactly what elevates it from a photograph on a wall to an experience within the space.
